MY PORTFOLIO
This is a collection of work I've done both professionally and personally over the years.
Enjoy!

Saiyan Design Concepts
As a child of the 90s, I'm a big Dragonball Z fan. It is single handedly responsible for making Japanese Anime so popular in the USA. For this project, I reimagined the character design of Prince Vegeta, a proud Saiyan warrior with a short stature and an even shorter temper. Throughout the DBZ story, we see how the Saiyans transition from a more barbaric, animalistic tribe into a still savage but technologically advanced society. I wondered what the barbaric Saiyans in their infancy would look like. So I made it so! I'd love to revisit this project someday with all the skills that I've learned since.

001
NOTHING tops Stranger Things season 4. It really revitalized the show for me. This represents a moment from the show when Eleven is fighting One with their psychic powers. I tried layer based rendering for this one. It's what we used to do in film school for 3D rendering and I wanted to see how effective it would be here. A full layer breakdown is available on my art instagram @lockjawart!

Valentine's Day 2026
I did several commissions for Valentine's Day 2026. This was one of my favorites!

Jack Sparrow
First attempt at a new rendering style. A true value study. I think the recognizability of this piece directly correlates to the recognizability of this character. This was very fun to work on!

Anakin
Anakin Skywalker is such a great character. So tragic. So inevitable. I wanted to continue practicing a new rendering technique that I'm messing with. You render everything in grayscale so you aren't distracted by color. Truly a deep value study. I also made a fun time lapse of my painting process that you can check out on my instagram @lockjawart!

Us, The Divine.
"Us, The Divine." is a project that I came up with some years ago. In thinking about the idea's origin, I'm realizing that the first inkling of it came while I was pitching thesis ideas back in college. I pitched a story about a young alien woman torn between two worlds, a super powered teen struggling with self acceptance, and a young native woman on a vision quest. I ended up going with the super powered teen which became Wildfire and bought me a free ticket to San Diego Comic Con to compete and win in their film festival. However, the themes and ideas present in all of those pitches stayed with me years later.
I was talking to my father one day about art. He's one of my biggest cheerleaders and his favorite thing to say to me is "that would make a great movie, Collin" so he often listens to my musings. We were talking about something unrelated and then the idea hit me like a ton of bricks. It was like electricity or like the idea was revealed to me rather than me thinking of it. I came up with three titles on the spot: From Earth to Eternity, The Gods of Earth, and the one I ended up going with after a poll in my longstanding group chat with some lifelong friends.
I immediately started sketching and getting it out of my head and into the world. I was sketching one day and designing some characters and one design stood out. You will see it below. This character will be the main protagonist of the story. Mesoamerican myth is kind of absent in our cultural zeitgeist and I think that's a shame because there are some really cool stories there. Here is an introduction to the world of Us, The Divine and an introduction to the character Quetzalcoatl.
"We, alive today are actually the 2nd age of humanity on Earth. The first age was lost to time. In that first age, the gods of earth tried to create another one of themselves. That being lived every human life for an infinity and attained some level of divinity, but at the cost of their sanity.
Enraged that the gods have forsaken them and forced them to experience an eternity of pain and suffering, and just before they are about to try to replicate themselves again, the demigod rebels, kills their creators and absorbs some of their godly essence. The demigod curses all gods of earth to live out a human life over and over again, losing their memories over and over again, till they have absorbed all godly energy and can reign supreme as the supreme being over the entire universe (multiverse?).
The gods of earth begin to live these human lives, though around puberty, their godly nature begins to show in the form of super abilities, and ancient memories. The demigod, now referred to as The Absence, jumps around between non god-touched people a la Agent Smith and tries desperately to continue absorbing godly energy for an eternity-for our eternity.
These new pubescent gods must protect the humans that they’ve created, protect their world, and stop the the ever strengthening Absence in their glorious purpose."

Chadwick Boseman
I made this piece in honor of Chadwick. Black Panther was great and I wanted to paint something cool to honor his life.

Aang
A quick and easy painting of Aang for a client. I love the Avatar style so much. I"m honestly kind of surprised that my style hasn't evolved to look more like it because I find it so appealing and attractive.

Batman Beyond
I can't remember if it was after watching American Assassin or not, but I saw the chemistry between Michael Keaton and Dylan O'brien. Made me think they'd be a perfect Old Man Bruce Wayne and Terry McGinnis duo. Batman Beyond was one of my favorite shows as a kid, so this one runs deep. This piece is where I learned a lot about blending and a lot about relative color. Very fun to work on and such a great sense of accomplishment when finished.

Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind
Inspired by Ghibili has to be the most common phrase in an artist's mouth. I mean Miyazaki has literally created moving art that has influenced an entire generation. Multiple generations! Okay. Enough nerding out. I painted this for a friend after she'd recommended Nausicaä and I loved every minute of it.

Kratos
I think that Christopher Judge is a great voice for Kratos in the new God of War games, but I think his physique makes him more than qualified for a shot to be a live-action Kratos too. This project originated from that. I copied my reference pretty 1 for 1 as it wasnt for a client or professional project. This project taught me a lot about blending. Also a lot about patience.

Space Monk
It's been awhile since I made this, but I'm pretty sure it's just a Monkey Astronaut on Mars. Why? Because. I also did some expression work for him because monkeys have feelings too.

Rue
Like much of my art, I was inspired while watching something. In this case, It was season 2 of Euphoria. I was experimenting with and trying to find my style. I still find myself switching between styles a lot and I'd love to find the shorthand common thread between all of my art eventually. I really like how this turned out though.
