Us, The Divine.

"Us, The Divine." is a project that I came up with some years ago. In thinking about the idea's origin, I'm realizing that the first inkling of it came while I was pitching thesis ideas back in college. I pitched a story about a young alien woman torn between two worlds, a super powered teen struggling with self acceptance, and a young native woman on a vision quest. I ended up going with the super powered teen which became Wildfire and bought me a free ticket to San Diego Comic Con to compete and win in their film festival. However, the themes and ideas present in all of those pitches stayed with me years later.

I was talking to my father one day about art. He's one of my biggest cheerleaders and his favorite thing to say to me is "that would make a great movie, Collin" so he often listens to my musings. We were talking about something unrelated and then the idea hit me like a ton of bricks. It was like electricity or like the idea was revealed to me rather than me thinking of it. I came up with three titles on the spot: From Earth to Eternity, The Gods of Earth, and the one I ended up going with after a poll in my longstanding group chat with some lifelong friends.

I immediately started sketching and getting it out of my head and into the world. I was sketching one day and designing some characters and one design stood out. You will see it below. This character will be the main protagonist of the story. Mesoamerican myth is kind of absent in our cultural zeitgeist and I think that's a shame because there are some really cool stories there. Here is an introduction to the world of Us, The Divine and an introduction to the character Quetzalcoatl.

"We, alive today are actually the 2nd age of humanity on Earth. The first age was lost to time. In that first age, the gods of earth tried to create another one of themselves. That being lived every human life for an infinity and attained some level of divinity, but at the cost of their sanity.

Enraged that the gods have forsaken them and forced them to experience an eternity of pain and suffering, and just before they are about to try to replicate themselves again, the demigod rebels, kills their creators and absorbs some of their godly essence. The demigod curses all gods of earth to live out a human life over and over again, losing their memories over and over again, till they have absorbed all godly energy and can reign supreme as the supreme being over the entire universe (multiverse?).

The gods of earth begin to live these human lives, though around puberty, their godly nature begins to show in the form of super abilities, and ancient memories. The demigod, now referred to as The Absence, jumps around between non god-touched people a la Agent Smith and tries desperately to continue absorbing godly energy for an eternity-for our eternity.

These new pubescent gods must protect the humans that they’ve created, protect their world, and stop the the ever strengthening Absence in their glorious purpose."
